1: When a homosexual or bisexual person alters the appearance of his or her domecile in order to hide from view any objects that could be construed as "gay." This is done in anticipation of the arrival of guests who are unaware of or uncomfortable with the individual's sexual orientation.

  * e.g.,  ... Oh, man, I need to straighten up before my parents get here. Jim, can you hold onto my gay porn until they leave?

1: verb: to hide gay-themed decor or other items in one's home to prepare a visit by friends or family who don't know that one is gay.

  * e.g.,  ... I need to straighten up my apartment before mom comes next week—can I store the Bruce Weber coffee-table books and Sunset Boulevard posters at your place? 

 [ "straightening up the closet" ]

1: When you have to come out as straight to people that perceived you as homosexual.

  * e.g.,  ... He was hitting on me, so I had to tell him that I wasn't gay. I was just straightening up the closet. 

 [ "straighten up and fly right" ]

1: Get your shit together--and keep it together.

  * e.g.,  ... If you don't straighten up and fly right, I'll have to call the police, and they'll do it for you! 

 [ "Straighten the fuck up." ]

1:  To stand up straight. To refrain from certain forbidden activities. To act in a more compassionate and caring manner. To refrain from illegal activity. To steer clear of droolies.

  * e.g.,  ...  Stop slouching, please straighten the fuck up. Stop smacking you gum, straighten the fuck up. Stop being disrespect, straighten the fuck up. Stop speeding, straighten the fuck up. Stop sleeping around, straighten the fuck up.
